Audi made no secret of its plans to extend US diesel offerings, and we already told you about that last November, but the German company has finally approved a TDI engine for the A4 model.
Speaking to Automotive News, Audi of America President Scott Keogh has revealed that the next-generation A4 will gain a 2.0-liter TDI clean diesel unit.
Speaking to Automotive News, Audi of America President Scott Keogh has revealed that the next-generation A4 will gain a 2.0-liter TDI clean diesel unit.
When asked to explain why the German company had to wait for the new A4 to arrive in order to equip it with a diesel, Keogh said that "it didn't make any sense to do all that dramatic re-engineering and re-architecting of the car to basically only have a two-year selling period".
The 2.0-liter TDI will probably be the same engine used on the 2013 A3 model, but with power raised from 150 HP to 184 HP for obvious additional weight handling purposes.
Audi also considered fitting the next-generation A4 with a bigger 3.0-liter TDI unit (source from the Q7), but the idea was dropped due to low sales estimates.
