2013 Dakar: Thomas Bourgin Dies after Crashing into a Chilean Police Car
It's a sad day for France, KTM and Dakar fans, as this tough raally claims yet another victim, French KTM rider Thomas Bourgin. Bourgin was only 25 and this was his first Dakar presence.

So far, all the info relates to Bourgin getting killed after colliding with an incoming Chilean police car during the 7th stage of the race. No further details have been released, but a police investigation has been initiated.

While the exact circumstances of the crash have not yet been defined and published, the medical teams reaching the site of the unfortunate event could only take not of the rider's death. Bourgin was in position 68 overall at the time of the accident.

The 2013 Dakar claimed another two lives earlier on Thurdsay, when a taxi collided with a support vehicle, close to the Peru-Chile border. Two of the occupants of the taxi have lost their lives.

Along the 31 editions of the Dakar rally, around 60 people lost their lives in various accidents, with 26 of these being competitors.
