White Party - Aventador, 458 Italia and McLaren

White Party - Aventador, 458 Italia and McLaren

Do exotic cars go hand in hand with techno/trance music? Not necessarily, because they’re engineered to be owned by everybody from 70-year old tycoons to 20-year old football players.

Color is an important choice as it’s basically the biggest statement you can make right off the production line before going to the tuners. If you’re a rapper, you go for black on black, and if you’re a footballer you go for orange.

However, there are some people in the world for whom money is no object. They can afford to match their cars to the clothes they wear that day, and why not go all-white for one of those white parties where you rave out with a bunch of your palls.

So, which would be the perfect car to buy in white, the Lamborghini Aventador, the Ferrari 458 Italia or the McLaren MP4-12C.

McLaren MP4-12C Enters Swedish Market

McLaren MP4-12C Enters Swedish Market
McLaren today announced the are entering the 21st global market today - the Nordics - as they have signed an agreement with sports car specialists, Autoropa, who will distribute their cars in Stockholm, Sweden.

Currently, the MP4-12C is sold in 16 locations across Europe, with a further 3 showrooms to open by the end of the year in Vienna, Geneva and Stockholm.

This is the very first car delivered to a Nordic customer, an orange 12C that arrived in Stockholm on 14th June 2012.

“I am very pleased to confirm Autoropa as our Nordic retailer and a key partner in our plans to launch McLaren Automotive and the 12C around the world. With a rich motor racing heritage, and many sports car enthusiasts, the region will be an influential guide as to our success in Europe,” said Antony Sheriff, McLaren Automotive’s Managing Director.

“In order to be part of the McLaren family, it is vital that our retail partners understand our business, our prospective customers and the technological innovations at the heart of the 12C. Autoropa was the obvious candidate in this regard and will make the perfect introduction in Sweden and throughout the Nordic region for McLaren Automotive,” added the McLaren MD.

McLaren MP4-12C to get extra power

McLaren MP4-12C to get extra power
In a letter sent to a MP4-12C owner (as published on PistonHeads.com), McLaren Automotive Managing Director, Anthony Sherrif, outlines the upgrades that will be made available to existing owners and applied to future MP4-12C models.

The biggest news is that the engine map for the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 has been tuned to deliver an extra 25hp (bringing total power to 625hp), but with economy and emissions remaining unchanged.

While the cars are in for the work McLaren will also install a remote-opening passenger door system, tweak the Meridian stereo and update the IRIS infotainment/satnav system. These upgrades come about through customer feedback that McLaren has received from existing MP4-12C owners.

The upgrades will be installed by McLaren dealers in October and is the second raft of updates for the supercar after the Woking based manufacturer added some 'emotion' to what was seen by some as a competent but sterile car - by channelling engine noise into the cabin, fine-tuning the gear changes and adding more feel to the steering.

McLaren MP4-12C getting boost in power, other upgrades for 2013

McLaren MP4-12C getting boost in power, other upgrades for 2013
McLaren will reportedly be offering a handful of upgrades for the 2013 model year MP4-12C supercar. Car and Driver reports that the most significant upgrade is a power bump – 25 horsepower – which now brings the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8's total output to a screaming 618 hp.

Other changes for 2013 include modified transmission programming and the addition of software that will let drivers control just how much engine noise is piped into the cabin. (With a car like this, why turn down that eight-pot growl?) There's also a suspension lift mode, which can raise and lower the car at slow speeds, and the MP4-12C's touchscreen infotainment interface will now be equipped with Bluetooth and navigation functionality.

Oh, and current MP4 owners needn't worry – McLaren will retrofit all of these new features to 2012 models free of charge. The 2013 model will officially go on sale this September.

McLaren MP4-12C Owners Get 25 HP Upgrade for Free

McLaren MP4-12C Owners Get 25 HP Upgrade for Free
The scanned document you see below is a letter received by an MP4-12C owner, which shows that the British carmaker has prepared a series of upgrades for the supercar and these aren’t just destined for models that are going to be ordered from now on - they’ll also be retrofitted, for free.

The biggest news comes from the engine bay, where the 3.8-liter twin-turbo gets an extra 25 hp and thus not only leads its segment, but moves one step closer to what the V12 supercars have to offer: the unit now delivers 625 hp.

This comes thanks to a new ECU map, which leaves the efficiency and the emissions at the same level, In addition to that, McLaren has upgraded the car according to feedback received from owners. Thus, the MP4-12C has been gifted with remote-opening passenger door, an engine sound control system, as well as an upgrade for the Meridian sound system and for the IRIS infotainment system.

McLaren dealers will begin installing the update in October. It doesn’t even matter if the automaker has done this thanks to British elegance or due to the fact that it wasn’t pleased with the sales of the model, it’s great news!

McLaren MP4-12C Spyder to get trick folding hardtop

McLaren MP4-12C Spyder to get trick folding hardtop
If you're going to go up against the Ferrari 458, a coupe isn't going to do it alone. No, for that you'll need a convertible version, too, to steal away customers who'd otherwise be putting their names down on the wait list for the 458 Spider.

Lamborghini knows that, as it has demonstrated with successive versions of the Gallardo. Audi knows it too, as it has shown with the R8 Spyder. Aston Martin makes a DBS Volante and Porsche offers a 911 Turbo convertible. So if McLaren is going to play in this league, it's going to need a convertible version of its MP4-12C. And if it's going to outshine these soft-topped contenders and pick up market share from the 458 Spider with its innovative folding hard-top, it's going to need a similarly impressive parlor trick, too. Fortunately that's just what's coming down the pipeline.

According to the latest intel from British weekly Autocar, McLaren has been collaborating with Webasto on a new type of roof mechanism for the upcoming 12C Spyder. Now if the name Webasto sounds familiar, that's probably because it's the same German outfit that developed the apertures for the Mini, Volkswagen Eos, Volvo C70 and, most crucially, the Ferrari California and 458 Spider.

For McLaren, Webasto is said to have made a three-piece folding roof that stacks in between the seats and the engine, allowing the twin-turbo V8 to be viewed through its clear compartment cover – something the 458 cannot boast. The panels themselves will likely be crafted from carbon fiber like much of the rest of the MP4-12C, but as for the nomenclature we'll have to wait and see. The only other roadgoing convertible McLaren ever produced was the SLR Roadster, whose name was likely determine by Mercedes-Benz, not by McLaren. Other convertibles on the market take the name Spider, Spyder, Speedster, Roadster, Cabrio, Cabriolet, Drophead Coupe, Volante or simply Convertible.

McLaren GT division moving into new facility closer to Woking

McLaren GT division moving into new facility closer to Woking
Think of the name McLaren and you're likely to conjure up images of two different things: grand prix racing and exotic supercars. Each of these two core areas of competence has its own division under the McLaren Group umbrella, but in between them sits a third division called McLaren GT.

The operation is dedicated to developing and supporting the above-pictured MP4-12C GT3 racing car, of which it has sold 25 examples to 13 teams currently fielding them in racing series across Europe and around the world. But while it has operated out of a dedicated facility in Leicestershire – a good two-hour drive down the M1 from the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking – the sports racing division is coming back home.

The new base for McLaren GT is being built near the group's state-of-the-art headquarters at the facility that housed the F1 team until 2004 when the MTC was completed. The 60,000-square-foot complex will include offices, garages, engine workshops and more all under one roof, in close proximity to the F1 team and the automotive assembly line, and most crucially, allow the sports racing division and its clients more direct access to the same simulators used by Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.

RACE CAR MANUFACTURER MCLAREN GT SET FOR NEW ENGINEERING CENTRE IN THE HOME TOWN OF MCLAREN GROUP

New race car manufacturer McLaren GT is announcing plans to establish a dedicated engineering and vehicle assembly facility close to the McLaren Technology Centre (MTC) in Woking, southern England, one year after the stunning 12C GT3 made its racing debut as part of an intensive 2011 development programme. Close proximity to the headquarters of McLaren Racing and McLaren Automotive presents the McLaren GT team with an enhanced opportunity to share resources, technology and exchange ideas with the design and engineering specialists working in the other McLaren Group brands, and will promote further integration of McLaren GT into the Group.

McLaren GT was launched as a new brand within the McLaren Group early in 2011, and has supplied 25 12C GT3s for racing in Europe in 2012. A total of 13 customer teams are now working closely with McLaren GT engineers to develop their new race cars throughout the competitive 2012 season, and each team has the opportunity to test vehicle set-up using the same simulator programme used by McLaren Racing and Formula 1 World Champions Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.

Moving from its former home in Leicestershire, McLaren GT will now be based in the premises occupied by McLaren Racing between 1987 and 2004. During this period, McLaren Racing Formula 1 team won a total of five Constructors', and six Drivers' Formula 1 World Championships.

To accommodate McLaren GT's expanding sales, marketing, design and manufacturing operations, the 60,000 sq ft facility will provide office space, a large workshop area and preparation and test bays all under one roof, as well as a state-of-the-art engine development centre.

The site will also be home to a fleet of McLaren 12C sports cars, which are managed by McLaren GT and run as part of a customer test drive programme entitled 'Pure McLaren', which operates at multiple test locations across Europe.

Andrew Kirkaldy, Project Director for McLaren GT, said: "I am excited that McLaren GT will be establishing our operations so close to the home of McLaren Racing. We have a new race car that comprises a unique package of Formula 1-inspired technology, and we are working with customers to ensure the potential performance of the 12C GT3 is realised this season.

"This relocation underlines the commitment and support within McLaren Group that is behind McLaren GT, and will be a benefit as we aim to offer a world-class engineering support service to our new customer teams.

"We plan to develop our manufacturing programme and are actively considering production of multiple specifications of race cars for worldwide racing in 2013."
