Jaguar shows off production XE body in camo

Jaguar turned to Twitter and Facebook to reveal the production form of its coming XE sedan that we'll see for real at the Paris Motor Show. This is the first of a series of show-offs, Jaguar planning to wrap the bodywork in see-through camo that shows off the aluminum monocoque and other internals the company will use to promote the XE over its German rivals. That aluminum structure, which Jaguar calls iQ[Al], will also be used for other Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles.

Underneath that long bonnet and ahead of that terribly short trunk will come a series of Ingenium engines, the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engines in diesel and petrol forms that will come in a variety of power options, and the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 that can also be found in the F-Type. Jaguar to finish building six remaining Lightweight E-Types

Back in February of 1963, Jaguar set about making a small run of lightweight E-Types. It recrafted the bodywork out of aluminum, shoehorned in a 3.8-liter straight-six with an aluminum block, stripped out the interior, removed the chrome trim and fitted lighter-weight side windows. The result was a 250-pound reduction in curb weight and a commensurate increase in performance, especially evident on the race track. The company originally set about building 18 examples, but only managed 12. The remaining six were allocated chassis numbers, but were never built. That is, until now.

Fifty years since the last of the original 12 lightweight E-Types were completed, Jaguar has announced that it is preparing to resume production and complete the final six examples. The company has assigned its top craftsmen to the job, who will build the half-dozen continuation Lightweights to the same exact specifications as the original dozen. Former sister-company and perennial arch-rival Aston Martin undertook a similar task (or at least authorized Zagato to do so) when it sanctioned four continuation examples of the original DB4 GT Zagato based on original chassis numbers in 1988, and another two based on original body shells and stock DB4 chassis in 1992.

Jaguar has not yet announced pricing and availability for the continuation Lightweights, but the first old-is-new example is set to debut this summer, whereupon Coventry will release further details. You can bet, though, that each one will be snapped up rather quick at just about any price the British automaker cares to put on them.

Jaguar is in the middle of an image makeover. It wants people to know that it makes more than just big, comfy luxury cars. Underneath that there is an edge. In its recent ads, the company wants to be associated with a more tailored, witty form of villainy. The next step is showing that it's also fearless.

Many Americans might not be familiar with José Mourinho, but he's one of the premier soccer, or football, coaches in the world. He's nicknamed "The Special One." Mourinho worked his way up from an assistant coach to lead small teams but eventually took over international heavyweights like Real Madrid and Chelsea.

In a new ad for the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe, Mourinho talks about what it means to be afraid. You might think such successful people overcome their fears, but successful men are driven it, he claims. Jaguar F-Type Tuned by Arden

Arden is a German tuning house that’s obsessed with Jaguar and Land Rover, so the company couldn’t miss Jag’s new F-Type. The project is still under development, but the tuner has released some of its details.

The company is developing an engine upgrade kit, which will probably bring a ECU remaps, for the F-Type’s range of powerplants. Arden is currently working on the upgrade for the V6 models and has released the kit for the range-topping V8 S model.

This delivers 495 hp when it leaves the factory, but now allows the driver to play with 550 hp, matching the output of Jaguar’s most potent model, the XKR-S.

The F-Type, which was dressed in British Racing Green, comes with a few styling tweaks, such as a custom lower front apron and a pouncing cat for the front end. In addition to that, it rides on 20-inch alloy wheels.

[Video] Jay Leno Drives Custom Jaguar E-Type V12

As far as pretty cars from the 1960s go, the Jaguar E-Type or XK-E, is among the best to look at and to listen to. The original Series I (S I)came with a 3.8- or 4.2-liter straight six engine, and from a styling standpoint, it is the best-looking E-Type they ever made.

The 4.2-liter unit was kept for the Series II (S II), but by 1969 the Series III (S III) came out, packing a mighty V12. However, while the latest version was the best as an overall car, it got bigger and heavier than its predecessors, and it was less fun to drive and more cumbersome to control.

The weight of the 5.3-liter V12 engine did not help handling at all, and the III was nowhere as nimble as the Series II.

However, some, like Jay Leno, like to mix and match, and he has recently presented and driven a hybrid E-Type. However, don`t go thinking he fitted it with electric motors and the lot - it`s not that sort of hybrid. In fact, it is a mix between the S III and the S I.

It gets the rear end and the shorter wheelbase of the S I, yet the front end and V12 engine are from the S III. Also, to make it look more like the S I, the people who modified it redid the lights, which were open, and made them look a lot like those on the S I.

The V12 engine was dynoed at 375 hp, and it sends its power to the rear wheels via a five-speed box. Also, in order to keep everything in check, the car gets disk brakes all round.

Overall, this Jag is very unique and well worth checking out!

Land Rover to Add 800 UK Jobs

The Jaguar-Land Rover group as just announced that it will be adding some 800 new jobs, at their manufacturing plant, in Solihull, Birmingham, in the UK. Strangely, this is the exact number of jobs Honda announced it would be cutting, at its Swindon plant - this shows just how unstable the automotive industry is right now, even in the UK, a country which has not been touched by the recession as much as other European states.

The new wave of hirings comes courtesy of increased demand for the all-new Range Rover, and the refreshed Range Rover Sport. Demand is also strong for the revised Discovery, and even the Defender is doing quite well. Furthermore, with a planned investment of £370 million at the Solihull plant, which will add a new Range Rover-exclusive body shop, yet more workers may be hired.

With excellent sales figures, an all-new Range Rover full of appeal, and the Evoque (which we tested in its coupe form) which has taken the crossover world by storm, the Jaguar-Land Rover group is doing well, and will be doing even better. Also, if they do decide to launch an even smaller crossover, to sit below the Evoque (and feature DC100-inspired styling), their sales numbers are set to stay on the rise.

Jaguar-Land Rover is really experiencing a boost in both sales and confidence, which has driven them to announce the creation of a new production facility in Saudi Arabia, which will handle more of their aluminium-related business. Remember that the country kingdom has extensive bauxite (aluminium ore) deposits, so they are tapping right into the source, as they plan to increase the extent at which they use aluminium).
