Porsche expands its
number of hybrids by 200 percent. Joining the Cayenne S Hybrid SUV is
the 2011 Panamera S Hybrid, dubbed by its makers as the most
fuel-efficient Porsche of all time. This sedan/hatch won’t make it to
the States until later this year, so the EPA doesn’t have any figures on
it yet. But the claimed 6.8 liters per 100 kilometers consumption
converts to 34.6 mpg, so that’s a ballpark. It’s the same hybrid
hardware as in the Cayenne version: a 333-hp 3.0-liter V6 (sourced from
Audi) and a 47-hp electric motor, plus nickel-metal-hydride batteries. A
rear-drive-only modelthe Panamera S Hybridgoes on sale in the States
later this year, starting at $95,975, but with a lot of standard
equipment.
