Honda Announces 777,000-Strong Recall in North America

Honda Announces 777,000-Strong Recall in North America

Honda has just announced the recall of some 777,000 vehicles, on the North American market. Of the total number, 748,000 are in the US, while the remaining 29,000 are in Canada.

The affected vehicles are the Pilot, from 2009 to 2013 model-year, as well as the Odyssey minivan/MPV built between the 2011 and 2013 model-years. Apparently, the affected cars have a problem with the deployment of the driver’s side airbags.

It sems from the fact that the airbags themselves may have been installed without some of the rivets which hold them in place (a scary thought in its own right), and if the given rivets are missing, the airbag may not deploy properly, increasing the risk of injury substantially.

Honda will begin notifying owners of the affected motors in mid-February, and they will be asked to bring their cars in for an inspection. If the problem is discovered, the driver’s side airbag will be refitted or replaced, depending on how severe the problem is. The Pilot was recalled last year due to it having faulty headlights, as well.

Our establishment in North America will secure support to Saab owners in the USA and Canada and ensure they have access to Saab Genuine Parts, service programs and technical support”, said Lennart Ståhl, CEO of Saab Automobile Parts AB.

To ensure the parts stay strong, Saab Automobile Parts AB will continue to work with the main automaker’s administrators.  According to an Autoblog article, this is so large pieces such as body parts can be built at the Trollhättan, Sweden assembly plant.  As of now, the supply company has about 70,000 parts on hand and about 1,200 warehouses worldwide.
