Gumball 3000 2012: Chini Baba C6 ‘Vette in NY

The C6 Covervette with Lingenfelter twin-turbo monster power was there and in style for the start of the 2012 Gumball 3000 road rally in New York. The crew at Superior Auto Design put this awesome matte red wrap on the car was also there, enjoying a day off, away from their work and doing a bit of meet and great by the side of the ‘Vette.

“So many of the drivers are from Europe and the Middle East and it was time to represent with good old American Muscle. Nothing epitomizes American muscle more than the Corvette. And nothing is better than a Lingenfelter Corvette,” says Superior Auto Design.

The ‘Vette also got those extra racy stickers and the “Gumball 3000” logo since the last time we saw it. Amusingly enough, it also seems to have grown a bit of oriental personality, most likely a request of the owner, Chini Baba, a well known character throughout the history of the GUMBALL.

The Corvette really stands out in a sea of Lambos, Ferraris and Nissan GT-Rs.

Lingenfelter C6 Corvette Matte Red Wrap

Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and also an awesome 2008 C6 Corvette by Lingenfelter, which has been wrapped in 3M matter red vinyl foil by South Florida tuning specialists Superior Auto Design.

Superior says that this is the only 3M matte red vinyl wrap, most likely because they only offer gloss and this comes with an extra coating, though we’re only speculating here.

“The pictures fell into Kristen Lingenfelters lap. She messaged us online and got us in contact with her husband, Ken Lingenfelter. It was an honor to have Mr. Lingenfelter himself give us a buzz and commended us on the great work we’ve done,” Superior says.

In any case, this patriotic and commemorative C6 ‘Vette was built for a customer who used it in the 2012 Gumball 3000 road rally, which started in New York and ends in Los Angeles. This is a good way to promote Superior Auto Design and the excellent performance of the American equivalent of supercars.

Besides the cool custom wrap, the Superior C6 also comes with a set of black HRE wheels with red lip, a twin-turbo Lingenfelter 750 performance package, Lingenfelter interior and blacked out lights.

Let us give you a typical moment of the Gumball Rally: a small group of participants that had stopped during their journey from Kansas City to Santa Fe, were told that lunch was coming. Want to try to guess what they heard? They thought that the word was actually “launch”.

Thus, they headed for the exit of the parking they were taking a break in and sent their supercars towards the horizon as if there was no tomorrow. When a team that's getting ready to compete in the Gumball Rally is placing the decals for the event on its car, the vehicle's tires are scared, very scared, because they now that this name means they'll be punished for the next week or so.

We're now bringing you an example that perfectly demonstrates why the Gumball 3000 decals scare away a supercar's tires. We are talking about a clip that shows a Ferrari 458 baking donuts at this year's edition of the event. Gumball 3000 2012: Local Motors Rally Fighter Burnout

Local Motor's Rally Fighter is probably the most extreme vehicle taking part in this year's Gumball and this is not just special because its fully custom-built, but also thanks to the fact that it really knows how to eat tarmac.

To demonstrate this, we've brought along a video that allows you to see the Rally Fighter performing a burnout and donut session. The hooning took place in Detroit, Michigan, a city that is all too familiar with tyre smoke.

Gumball 3000 2012: Glen Cove Fire Department Lamborghini Murcielago

No, of course there’s no fire department taking part in the Gumball Rally, even though a Lamborghini Murcielago with the ability to put out fires would be great. The Murcie you see above, thanks to Youtube user Shmee150, was actually brought to Times Square, where the even started, for promotional purposes, with the supercar sitting on HRE wheels.

The custom rims, which might not suit eveyrbody’s taste, can be fitted to any modern Lamborghini model and now the entire world paid attention to them, so we have to admit that this was a pretty smart marketing scheme.
