2013 BMW F10M M5 on HRE Wheels by Velos Designwerks

Velos Designwerks recently completed their latest BMW F10M M5 build creating the following white beast rolling on HRE S101 wheels in brushed titanium.

This particular M5 features a host of performance upgrades including a new Manhart race axle-back exhaust system and KW V3 coilovers with a variety of aftermarket styling components also being fitted to the car.

2013 BMW Alpina B7

BMW’s main competitors Mercedes and Audi both offer high-performance versions of their top models. Mercedes has the S63 AMG and S65 AMG, Audi offers the S8, but there isn’t a BMW M7. Those who want a high-performance version of BMW’s flagship model there is the Alpina B7. And now the Alpina B7 has been enhanced in-line with updates to the 2013 BMW 7 Series Sedans including more power, more performance, and more efficiency.

Whereas the previous Alpina B7 produced 500 horsepower and 700Nm of torque, the updated powerful and luxurious sedan now features an additional 40hp and 30Nm, resulting in a total output of 540hp and 730Nm. The 4.4 liter V8 is paired with a new eight-speed transmission. The sprint from standstill to 100km/h is done in 4.3 seconds and the top speed is now an impressive 312km/h, which makes the updated B7 30km/h faster than its predecessor. 

The Alpina B7 will be offered in short and long wheelbase models, with optional xDrive. The car rides on the iconic 21-inch Alpina 20 spoke wheels, which are the most noticeable feature on the outside. Other modifications like the rear spoiler and renewed front- and rear bumpers are quite subtle. Optional are full LED headlights, new exterior colors and interior upholstery choices in-line with the 7 Series update and a Bang & Olufsen sound system. 

The renewed Alpina B7 will make its debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August and will go on-sale immediately thereafter. Pricing starts at $128,495.

BMW reveals Alpina B7 upgrades for 2013

We've already read about the new features that will be available on the refreshed 2013 BMW 7 Series, but now, the German automaker has spilled the beans about its delicious Alpina B7, as well.

As you'd expect, the B7's 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 has been massaged for the new model year (including the addition of start/stop), and drivers will now be able to enjoy 540 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque – increases of 40 and 22, respectively. All of this runs through a new eight-speed automatic transmission and can be sent to the ground via standard rear-wheel drive or through BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system. BMW says that depending on drive configuration and wheelbase length, the sprint to 60 miles per hour can be achieved in either 4.3 or 4.4 seconds.

The slight visual enhancement to the 2013 7 Series is indeed noticeable here on the Alpina B7, with the larger kidney grille up front flanked by redesigned headlamps. Revised taillamps are found out back, and of course, the B7 is offered in its signature Alpina Blue Metallic rounded off with the car's signature 21-inch, 20-spoke wheels at all four corners.

BMW will officially debut the 2013 Alpina B7 at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in August. Short-wheelbase models will be priced at $127,600 (rear-wheel drive) and $130,600 (xDrive), with long-wheelbase B7s retailing for $131,500 and $134,500, respectively.

BMW M7 talk picks up speed

 

With Mercedes-Benz and Audi happy to slake the world's appetite for top-dollar, full-size luxury sports sedans through their AMG and S divisions, we can't help but wonder why it's taken so long for BMW to commit to an M7 model.

For years, the sportiest 7 Series in the U.S. has been the Alpina B7, which has been heavily breathed-upon by the namesake tuner and offered through official BMW dealers. Most recently, Car and Driver reopened the discussion just last month.

While the company still isn't officially committing to an M7, TheDetroitBureau.com quotes Ludwig Willisch, CEO of BMW North America, as bullish on the model's prospects. According to the the report, while BMW has long maintained that it wouldn't build a 7 Series M, "sentiment appears to be changing, especially with Willisch's counterpart in China also lending his support." Of course, if BMW builds such a model, that doesn't mean we'll see it in the States, but Willisch seems optimistic about our chances.

No timetable has been set, and BMW has been occupying its time with the just-revealed 7 Series refresh (and the M division is still busy readying the next M3), so if an M7 is in the cards, it wouldn't surprise us if we had to wait until the next-generation model's arrival.

2013 BMW 7-Series Facelift

The newly updated 2013 BMW 7 Series has received a number of updates, which include powertrain upgrades for the 740i/Li and 750i/Li models as well as a completely new powertrain for the ActiveHybrid 7. The exterior and interior have also been upgraded.

The 2013 BMW 740i/Li now features BMW’s latest 3.0 liter TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder (N55). The luxury sedan uses a high-output version of this engine delivering 315 horsepower and 330lb-ft of torque. BMW’s eight-speed steptronic automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive system are also available for the 740Li. Auto Start-Stop, Brake Energy Regeneration and the second-generation Driving Dynamics Control with ECO PRO mode complete the package.

The 2013 BMW 750i/Li also receive upgrades to its powertrain. The 4.4 liter TwinPower Turbo V8 has been updated with Valvetronic, BMW’s throttle-less intake system. It works in concert with High-Precision Direct Injection and twin turbochargers, nestled on top of the engine, to deliver 445 horsepower, a 45hp increase over its predecessor, and 480lb-ft of torque, an increase of 30lb-ft. 

The new 7 Series has a revised exterior that features new technologies such as full-LED headlights, a new kidney grille design and a modified front and rear apron. 

The interior of the new 7 is similarly enhanced with a newly redesigned iDrive system and the availability of an optional Bang & Olufsen High-End Surround Sound system. Its 16 speakers include an illuminated centre speaker which retracts almost fully into the instrument panel. You can also get a new rear seat entertainment package with a new 9.2 inch flatscreen monitor and the people in the front sit on newly designed leather seats.

The new 2013 7 Series arrives in US BMW center showrooms in late summer 2012, expect for the ActiveHybrid 7 which arrives in early fall.
