Honda’s 2012 Sales Boosted by New Civic and Accord

Honda’s 2012 Sales Boosted by New Civic and Accord

American Honda today reported strong gains of 26 percent for the last month of 2012 compared to December 2011. These figures added up to a 24$ increase to 1,42 million vehicles delivered fro the whole of 2012, placing them among the best performing automakers, with a substantial market share of 9.8 percent compared to just 9 last year.

The bulk of sales came from Honda Division, who came to within 500 cars of achieving their best December ever. Their result were helped by high demand of the outgoing version of Civic, the 2012 that’s been heavily incentivized by dealers.

The Civic sedan and coupe saw demand increased by 61 percent in December to 33,118 cars. The 2013 Civic began arriving at dealerships last month, following its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show but had a minimal impact.

Meeanwhile, demand for the Accord increased 66 percent to almost 30,000 cars, while the CR-V remained a strong performer throughout 2012, with 281,652 crossover units sold in these 12 months. For December, the 2012 CR-V sales totaled 25,733 units.

"Honda began the year intent on recovery," said John Mendel, American Honda executive vice president of Sales. "We ended 2012 with multiple product awards, a host of sales records, Honda's second best December ever, and tremendous momentum as we head into 2013."
