Granted, sport utility vehicles and crossovers don’t set pulses racing like a big-power sports machine, but the premium compact Audi Q3 still appeals to our more sensible sides. Until something like a BMW X1 comes along, the all-new Q3 has a niche to itself. It seats five, sports useful tech like blind spot monitoring, lane departure alert, Internet access and parking assistance, plus (for the German model at least) engine choices running to Audi/VW’s excellent 2.0-liter TDI and 2.0-liter TFSI gasoline units with start/stop features. A seven-speed transmission directs power to either a front-wheel-drive or Quattro setup. At the time of writing, Audi’s USA operation had not made a decision on whether to bring the Q3 over.
