Toyota Showcase Stylish New Yaris Hybrid in Promo Videos

The Yaris Hybrid is arguably one of the prettiest cars to be made by Toyota in recent years, excluding the GT-86, which is a sports car and you’d expect it to be sleek, well designed and focused on aesthetics.

Why have we chosen looks as the first criteria to talk about? Well, given the fact that its sister-car, the uninspiring Toyota Prius C looks considerably worse from a design standpoint, and most other hybrids also compromise aesthetics for increased efficiency, or interior space or aerodynamics.

The Yaris Hybrid looks considerably better than even the standard Yaris on which it is based. But enough about looks, is the car a decent proposition for prospective hybrid buyers? We say yes, as it features a shrunken hybrid powertrain (taken from the Prius), it delivers a combined power output of 100hp (more than adequate for city driving, from its 1.5-liter engine and electric motor), enabling it to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in just under 12 seconds and on to a top speed of 166 km/h (103 mph) - all decent numbers for an ‘eco car’.

However, its main selling point will definitely be its outstanding fuel efficiency and very light carbon footprint, with a claimed economy of 3.5 l/100km (80.7 UK mpg) and the lowest CO2 rating of any car on the road today, at just 79 g/km. Factor in the revised CVT gearbox which promises a more spritely power delivery and what you have is a very good, competent and (very) cheap (for a complex hybrid) little city car which you can buy for €18,400 ($23,200).

It also seems to fit in very well with the narrow and cobbled Euro-style streets and we feel the need to say it again, that it’s definitely a stylish looking thing looking a bit Renault Clio-ish (front) and Peugeot 207-ish (rear) from certain angles.
