Here’s a good story
about the McLaren MP4-12C supercar. There’s a piece that goes behind the
dash made of lightweight magnesium alloy. The company that makes it
incorporated an embossed McLaren logo, but Mac sent it back with
instructions to shave off the logo, to save that fraction of an ounce of
mass. This is the kind of retentive detail into which the 12C’s
creators go. Which might make splashing out the now-official price of
$229,000 a little easier to bear. Then again, for a 2,900-pound car with
a lot of carbon fiber in its construction, a suspension tuned by a
Formula One championship-winning team and 592 hp to play with, maybe
that figure isn’t too bad. It’s all relative, isn’t it?
