EVGT-40 - Ford GT-40 Inspired EV

EVGT-40 - Ford GT-40 Inspired EV

You may have noticed that EVs nowadays still aren’t lookers, so if you want style while you’re driving completely combustion-free, you’re not spoiled for choice. It would be nice to have an electric car which is interesting to look at, and you won't be ashamed to take your friends for a ride.

Two years ago, EV and retro enthusiast Andrew McClary bought a rusty chassis and a fiberglass kit for a 1968 Fiberfab Valkyrie. Doesn’t really sound promising, but thanks to some ingenuity and engineering know-how, he has managed to make a Ford GT-40-ish EV which is capable of doing 200km/h (130mph), while offering a range of 200km (130miles) from its 38kWh battery pack. We particularly liked the fact that it has a 4-speed manual gearbox, which must be really fun on an electric motor.

If one was to ignore the pointless Lambo-doors and the slightly disproportionate rear end which makes the wheels look tiny, the car is actually quite cool. You get 60s styling, which is the best kind of styling, zero emissions and it even has solar panels to power the cooling fans, even when it’s not running. A genuinely great effort and a very interesting end result.
