Each year, Hot Rod Magazine puts on a massive across the nation event known as the “Power Tour”. For the 2012 running, the tour will start in Michigan on June 2 and end up in Arlington, Texas by June 9. Along for the ride will be Chevrolet who will not only showcase some historic legends, but future ones as well. Kicking things off with a muscle-filled bang will be hot rods such as the reborn COPO and Hot Wheels Camaros along with other bow tie greats at the General Motors Millford Proving Grounds.
For the most part, GM’s Millford Proving Grounds have been a bit hush-hush as most future vehicles, including the next Corvette, shred tires there. With more than 130 miles of driving space packed into 4,000 acres, all types of GM products have made it to the grounds. With the help of Hot Rod Magazine, members of the public will be given the opportunity to experience the facility like never before. There may be parts Millford that will be off-limits, but there will still be tours and ride-and-drives available.
“This is a great opportunity for enthusiasts to get a glimpse behind the curtain at GM and for us to get in touch with our performance customers,” said Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. Once the events at Millford are done, Chevrolet Performance will pack up their stuff in 14 specialized vehicles to move on through the tour. Cars such as the 2012 ZL1 Camaro, 2012 Caprice Police Car and a 1953 Suburban using a Trailblazer SS frame and 665 horsepower, supercharged LS crate engine will be traveling the entire distance of the week-long tour.
