Product planners, eh?
They have to do something to justify their salaries. The chaps at MINI
certainly keep on their toes, having recently unveiled the Paceman
concept. Or Sports Activity Coupe, in product planners’ language. Think
of it as a Countryman (mini-SUV) with just two doors. Something that was
practical made less practical fashioned from something that made
compactness a virtue but made bigger. Nevermind, it still has the 211-hp
twin-turbo 1.6-liter engine found in the John Cooper Works machine,
with an overboost function to hit 207 lb-ft of torque every now and
then. While we’re on the subject of product planners, MINI is also
talking about making a small car (seriously), perhaps a version of the
low-roofed MINI Coupe Concept. And parent company BMW is also rumored to
be working on a front-drive car smaller than the 1 Series. Naming it
should be interesting. Presumably the 0.5 Series is not an option.
