It’s taken some time for German carmakers to get on board with hybrids, since they have spent much effort and money on bringing diesel power to a greater acceptance. But the market wants what the market wants, and hybrids sell. So Audi is bringing out the A8 Hybrid for 2012. With a 2.0-liter turbo four and an electric motor, the company states a total power output of 245 hp and 345 lb-ft of torque, but average fuel consumption is said to be 36.75 mpg. It can run up to 60 mph in electric mode only, for a distance of 1.86 miles. Audi has not given any prices yet, but in light of the typical American driver’s aversion to diesel, it’s a good bet the A8 Hybrid will go on sale here. And just to sweeten the deal, a Bose sound system comes standard.
