If you may not have noticed, when looking at the Mercedes-Benz
Sprinter and the Volkswagen Crafter, but the two commercial vehicles are
very much identical, and the only things that differ are the front
fascias, engines and badging.
This is no accident, as the two automakers are in an agreement to build both vans in the same place and the same way, in order to save money. However, now Volkswagen has announced that the next Crafter van will be a vehicle of their own creation.
The Wolfsburg automaker is now looking to team up with MAN, as they also hold a majority stake in the company, which also specializes in the design and building of commercial vehicles, albeit of a much larger size. Volkswagen also want better integration of the range of commercial vehicles MAN offers into its own, in order to simplify and streamline that side of their business.
They have not yet announced what exactly is set to happen, but since the van-building joint venture runs until 2016, they have plenty of time to prepare the grounds for their in-house developed Crafter.
