China is the last great untapped resource for the Toyota GT86,
which will undoubtedly attract a large following once it gets launched.
So far there has been little talk about the GT86 and the Chinese market,
in the same sentence, but we were always curious as to why.
Well, now people will start to talk, because Toyota has announced that it will begin selling its nimble little sportscar in the PRC, starting in March. They got the first glimpse of the GT86, in the metal, at the Beijing Auto Show, which took place last year in April, and following the venue, it was paraded around all the major Chinese motor shows, until the end of the year.
The 200 hp boxer engine-powered coupe is set to cost around 300,000 yuan or €37,000.
We say that once the GT86 becomes available for purchase, it will give Toyota, which has had serious problems in China due to the recent political issues which lead many to boycott Japanese cars altogether, a much-needed image boost, as the car is actually very good in all respects - read our comprehensive test drive to get the complete picture.
