We know Lexus’ new design direction, Jay Leno has driven a heavily-camouflaged example and we have a very good idea as to how it will look, and we will soon have to wait no more, for the all-new 2014 IS. The 3-Series rival is set to be officially unveiled later today, but the premium Japanese automaker has decided to release one more teaser before the car is fully revealed.
The design will be in-tune with what Lexus has gotten us used to in 2012, yet the IS is said to take a lot of inspiration from the LF-CC concept, and that`s not a bad thing, as the concept is a stunner! It will ride on a shorter version of the same platform which underpins the GS, yet it will get different suspension settings, to give it its own distinct character - stiffer anti-roll bars and softer springs.
It will be offered with either a 2.5-liter V6 engine, which puts out 200 hp, as well as a meatier 3.5-liter V6 motor, which is expected to break the 300 hp barrier. A hybrid will also be offered, using the same 2.5-liter engine as a base, and it will give a combined power output of around 240 hp. Efficiency is also reported to be top class, for the hybrid, which is said to return 3.8 l/100km, or 60.7 US mpg/ 73 UK mpg, while still managing to get to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.9 seconds.
