While the Europeans still have to wait for the all-new Ford
Mondeo to arrive in its natural home market, it seems that they will be
the third major market to get it, after the Americans, and now the
Chinese. The rebadged Fusion will enter production in China, and will be
built by the Chang’an-Ford joint venture.
They currently make the old generation Mondeo, but since that car is still selling very well, its pricing will most likely be ‘adjusted’ and it will be kept in production, just like Mazda has with the 6 (three generations are being manufactured at the same time, in China).
It is not clear yet whether or not all of the engines which currently power the Mondeo will make their way under the bonnet of the new car, as reports currently seem to clash. If we were to guess which engines would be dropped, it would have to be the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter and 2.3-liter units, which will be replaced by different variants of the 1.6-liter EcoBoost turbo unit.
