Spyshots: 2013 Porsche 911 Targa 991

Spyshots: 2013 Porsche 911 Targa 991
We’ll quote Bob Marley for the start of this article: “Don’t worry, be happy”, Porsche isn’t going to turn the next 911 Targa into a car that requires the owner to manually remove the glass top. This rumor was the first that came to our minds when we saw the adjacent spyshots of the car. If you take a close look, you’ll notice that the canvas and the composite material rear window are fake, being used just to hide the true details of the car.

However, the 991 generation of the 911 Targa will bring back the central roll bar, borrowed from the original 1960s’ Targa, but the massive glass panel in front of it is expected to fold electrically behind the roll bar. Porsche has done a great job reinventing the soft top for the Cabrio versions of the new 991 generation, so we’re expecting the new Targa roof to also be a technical masterpiece.

The should borrow its tech side from the Carrera and Carrera S versions, which means that if you go for the standard one, you’ll get a 3.4-liter flat six delivering 350 hp, while the sportier model will be powered by a 3.8-liter flat six with 400 hp. Porsche is expected to launch the four-wheel drive versions of the Carrera and Carrera S by the end of the year and thus there will also be Targa incarnations of these ones.
