Spyshots: 2013 Opel Astra Cabrio

Last week, Opel revealed the latest member of the Astra family, the five-door. The new sedan was the fourth model of the range, sitting alongside the normal hatchback, the wagon and the GTC coupe.

Now, we’re looking at spy photos of the fifth and probably the last body shape to be spawned under the Astra name from the same GM Delta II platform that also underpins the Chevrolet Cruze and the Buick Verano.

yes, this is the Astra Cabrio, a four-seater, two-door convertible which is most likely going to be revealed at the end of the year. The open-top car is likely going to use the HiPerStrut front suspension and the Watt’s link rear axle as the GTC.

The engine range will also be borrowed from its hatchback and coupe brothers. However, don’t expect any wild performance version, as the (expensive) range-topping model will get the same 180 horsepower engine as the Astra Turbo.

To save weight, the Astra Cabrio will use a retractable soft-top roof, unlike the old TwinTop that had a folding metal roof.

  1. Spy shots like these always give me the thrill of suspense and anticipation. Can't wait for all that imaginative description to come soon.
