Toyota Hybrid Sales Top 4 Million

Toyota Hybrid Sales Top 4 Million
Toyota Motor Company (TMC) has announced that that sales of their hybrid vehicles cumulated across all the brands have now reached over 4 million units as of the end of April.

Back in 1997, TMC sold the Coaster Hybrid EV in August, followed by the first generation of the Prius in December. Elsewhere in the world, the first mass market hybrid vehicle was introduced in 2000, three years later. Three years after that, in 2003, the second generation of the Prius arrived, and Toyota started expanding hybrid technology to the minivans, SUVs, rear-wheel-drive sedans and compact hatchbacks it sold.

As of the second half of 2013, hybrids will be built in America as well, at the Indiana Plant. The 19 hybrid cars that Toyota Motors sells accounted for 15% of total global figures last year. Soon, two more will join the lineup, namely the Yaris Hybrid, Europe’s version of the Prius C, and the Lexus ES 300h.
