New Mini Cooper S scooped at the Nurburgring
BMW has started final testing on the Mini Cooper S version of the all-new Mini. These scoop pictures of the car at the Nurburgring in Germany show that the new Mini will be somewhat bigger than the current car.

Based on BMW’s all-new UKL front-drive platform (which is shared with BMW’s new entry-level car) these pictures show that the new model, codenamed F56, has a noticeably longer front end. The bonnet is longer, the front wheel is placed further forward and the front overhang seems to have grown considerably.

This Cooper S model is expected to by powered by the new-generation version of BMW’s ‘Prince’ engine, which is made at Hams Hall in the UK. This new engine will make its debut in the current JCW Mini, produces the same 208bhp as the current engine, but with much improved fuel economy and "improved responsiveness".
The Mini One and Mini Cooper will be powered by the new, three-cylinder, 1.5-litre N37 engines. Based on the new N20 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that made its debut in the new 3-series, the Mini Cooper version will be good for as much as 150bhp.

Various sources are now also confirming that there will also be a five-door version of the F56 Mini. The new model is said to just 50mm longer than the three-door, but BMW engineers have managed to squeeze in two short rear doors which are cut in around the rear wheel arches. The doors are said to be primarily useful for allowing children quick access to the rear seats.
