The first generation Viewt was launched back in 1993, and it tried (and succeeded) to mimic a 1960s Jaguar Mk II, but using a substantially smaller chassis as a base for the car, and fitting it with 1.0- and 1.3-liter engines.
Mitsuoka have recently released the new generation Viewt, now based on the latest generation Nissan Micra (a car so dreadful, we should even be mentioning it). Being based on the previously mentioned car, the Viewt borrows considerably from it, and while it retains the styling of its predecessor, it now gets bits from its new interior (which is considerably worse than that of the premium-esque interior of the previous Micra), with Mitsuoka attempting to cover the horrid plastics with some higher quality materials, like leather and wood.
With its 79hp 1.2-liter Micra-sourced engine, coupled exclusively to a CVT gearbox, and with the option of all-wheel drive, the Viewt is an interesting proposition for those who are looking for something a bit different to get them around town. It is actually a cool car, and with the addition of some properly-retro wire wheels (which the buyer would have to get elsewhere) it would look spot on.
With a base price in Japan of around €20,500 ($25,800) which rises to €27,300 ($34,300), the Viewt is twice as expensive as the Micra, but it’s three times more car in terms of what you get for your money, so overall, a good deal.
