While the new McLaren
MP4-12C super-light supercar is an interesting proposition as it
stands, its makers are planning on adding a little extra pedigree. By
racing it as a GT3 car. In collaboration with another British operation,
CRS Racing, McLaren will be setting up a few models to compete at some
European GT events this year and make cars available to customers in
2012. The 12C’s architecture and design was always aimed at high
performance and ease of maintenance, says team principal Martin
Whitmarsh. CRS Racing’s Andrew Kirkaldy adds: The result will be an
incredible GT car with manageable running costs. Of course, manageable
is a relative term.
