The Swedish carmaker that hasn’t been bought by the Chinese or mired in bankruptcy, Koenigsegg, still has plans to bring its 940-hp Agera supercar to the United States, perhaps as early as June, hoping an airbag loophole will get it past federal regulations. However, that’s just one aspect of the company’s strategy. Another one is the use of an engine without camshafts. It would take pneumatic valvetrain technology from Formula One to pull off, but the benefits would be infinitely variable valve lift and duration. Just the problems of reliability, refinement and noise to overcome.
