Jaguar C-X16 - Type cast?

We’ve heard of two-plus-two cars, but Jaguar calls its new C-X16 concept a “one plus one” sports machine. Which sounds like a two-seater, but hey, when it looks like this, Jaguar can use any description it likes. The rear end treatment appears to be influenced by the C-X75 hybrid concept of 2010. And this is also a hybrid of sorts, with a 370-hp supercharged V6 plus a “push to pass” feature that works like the kinetic energy recovery system (KERS) in a Formula One car. This button on the steering wheel brings another 94 hp to the party and pushes torque from 332 lb-ft up to a thundering 550. According to Jaguar, acceleration from 50 to 75 mph takes just 2.1 seconds. An eight-speed ZF transmission delivers that grunt to the rear wheels, while an aluminum body and chassis components keep the weight of what is essentially a premium vehicle in check. Plug in any one of several smartphones, and the car’s OLED screen will reconfigure to provide familiar functionality. The chances for a production model seem rather rosy; Jaguar’s Design Director, Ian Callum, has said that the C-X16 “defines the agenda for a future of dramatic, innovative sports cars.” One hesitates to use the term “21st-century E-Type” but it’s tempting.
