The rumors are all true! Chevrolet is bringing back the
rear-drive sedan under the SS name soon, and the car will be featured
next year as a brand new NASCAR race car.
"Holden has a great track record of producing performance cars for GM and the world," said Holden’s Executive Director of Engineering Greg Tyus. "We were responsible for the design and engineering of the Chevrolet Camaro, VE Commodore was sold as the Pontiac G8 and we are currently exporting the Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle - so we understand the needs of the North American market."
The car has officially been announced as a limited production car build on the next generation of Holden VF Commodore developed by the Australians. The most probably engine is the 6.2-liter LS3 V8 with 426 horsepower and 420 lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque.
The
production model will go on sale in late 2013 as a 2014 model year car,
but the racing variant will preview it in the 2013 Daytona 500. The car
will most likely be shown as a production version at next year’s
Detroit Auto Show.
