Volkswagen New SUV Concept: CrossBlue Leaked Photos

Volkswagen New SUV Concept: CrossBlue Leaked Photos
Ahead of the official debut at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, some photos of Volkswagen’s new SUV concept have emerged.

Apparently, the model is called the CrossBlue, and as a concept at least, it’s a 6-seater, not a 7-seater as was previously reported.

The SUV will slot in between the Tiguan and the Touareg in terms of price. It has been created specifically for the North American market and is built on the new MQB platform that underpins the Golf VII and the next Passat, but no US models as of yet.

Inside its 195.3-inch long body (4,986mm), the CrossBlue has room for six people in a 2+2+2 thanks to a seating layout. Potentially, it could be kitted out with a 3-seat bench in the middle when it enters production.

As we’ve come to expect from most VW concepts, the CrossBlue is a hybrid. At the front is a new 190 hp TDI clean diesel, which is helped by one 54 hp electric motor for the front axle and a 114 hp electric motor for he rear axle. It features a battery pack hidden under the floor where the transmission tunnel would have ben and even comes with a recharging socket.
