In what has unquestionably been the most hotly anticipated car launch in the past twelve months, Chevrolet has finally released the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray a day ahead of the start of the 2013 Detroit Motor Show.

The 2014 model car has been in development for many years now, and after extensive work was put into redefining the car to help launch it into a completely new supercar league, the brand new Corvette Stingray features a host of upgrades and a completely redesigned body which according to a company spokeswomen “scared them” in regards to how it would be created.


The new car is the most powerful base Chevrolet Corvette ever produced, with an estimated 450hp being produced for its new generation LT1 GM V8 engine. As a result, the new car surpasses the previous generation base C6 substantially in every performance aspect and is able to launch to 100km/h in under four seconds, pulling over 1G when cornering and being able to stop from 100km/h in a similar time to the Z06 Corvette.

As a matter of fact, the new engine also creates 50lb-ft more torque low-end torque than the previous generation powerplant with it being able to compete with the LS7 V8 engine from 1,000-4,000rpms.

Chevrolet believes that the seventh-generation Corvette, or C7, is so extraordinary and such a jump in technology over all previous Corvette’s, that it has named it the Corvette Stingray after the legendary Stingray from the 1960’s.

To top of the impressive engine powering the brand new Corvette, it also makes use of a seven-speed TREMEC manual transmission with Active Rev Matching. As its name suggests, the Active Rev Matching helps the driver perform the perfect up-shifts and own-shifts no matter their experience level.

For those who prefer to relax when driving, the new Corvette Stingray is also available with a six-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission which will also utilise Active Fuel Management just like the manual. Furthermore, the automatic transmission is also fitted with a launch control function.



The new exhausts on the car are less restrictive than those of previous generations with each of the four exhaust exists measuring 2.75 inch, compared to 2.6 inch on the previous Corvette. As a result, air flow has been improved 13%.

Fitted with Brembo performance brakes as standard and 18/19 inch wheels mated to Michelin Pilot Super Sport run-flat tires, the new Corvette Stingray is set to handle remarkably different to previous generation Corvette’s, and when fully-specced will easily be a match for the 640hp, 2013 SRT Viper GTS.

Inside, the 2014 Corvette features a completely handcrafted high-end interior, featuring Napa leather, micro suede, aluminium and carbon fiber accents with two new seating options, Touring and Competition, now being offered to customers.

Bringing the new Corvette Stingray further into the 21st century, the car also includes twelve different driving configurations to perfectly suit any road surface or driving style, including Weather, Eco, Tour, Sport and Track. All of these options can be changed on the two 720p eight-inch screens fitted inside the car.

Corvette’s chief engineer, Tadge Juechter had the following to say about the new car;
