It will do no good to
say we told you so, but really, Volkswagen, why sit on a great concept
for nine freaking years and subject families to frankly uninspired
rebadged Chryslers with the Routan, when all this time the Microbus
could actually have made minivan driving cool? Sorry if this seems like
an extreme and unexpected reaction to the news that Wolfsburg is
considering a new Microbus based on the handsome 2001 concept, but it
just goes to show the level of passion for this vehicle. According to
chief designer Klaus Bischoff, I would not be doing my job properly if I
was not thinking of bringing back the Camper. It could have ... a
traditional interior. Or we could be much bolder, designing a more
flexible, versatile machine ... closer in spirit to the original. Amen
to that, brother.
