Audi is looking for a
10th win at the Le Mans 24-hour race in 2011. And the car being fielded
is the new R18 with a turbocharged 3.7-liter diesel V6. Note that this
is a coupe instead of an open-top racer, like the company’s previous
race machines. The engine is rated at 550 hp and power goes through a
six-speed S tronic transmission. With those giant LED headlights up
front, the night phase should be easier to handle. Audi will be running
three R18 cars this season and one driver is longtime team member Allan
McNish, who already has two overall Le Mans victories.
