Volkswagen has teamed
up with one of the great names in American music: Fender. Apparently, a
number of 2012 VW cars will have an all-new Fender-branded premium
audio system. At the time of writing, neither company has stated how
many watts or how many speakers are involved, so perhaps it’s a moveable
feast from car to car. In the field of sound reproduction, Fender-the
company that brought us the Stratocaster electric guitar, Hendrix’s axe
of choice-is best known for guitar amplifiers, which actually have a
limited frequency range. It seems the real brains behind this setup is
Panasonic, no slouch when it comes to in-car entertainment. The new
Jetta GLI will be the first to enjoy such a system, then the new midsize
sedan and the 2012 Beetle.
